Hi there! I’m Lori, the heart and voice behind Gentle Gains, your go-to blog for low-impact fitness, health and wellness tips, and mental health awareness. Let me share a little about my story—why I created this blog and how I hope it can help you on your journey to a healthier, happier life.
Growing up, my weight was like a rollercoaster—sometimes I felt great, and other times I didn’t. One day, I looked in the mirror and felt deeply unhappy with where I was, both physically and mentally. That moment was my wake-up call. I decided to take control of my life, starting with something as simple as walking. After a tough day at work, I headed to a local track to clear my head, and I just started moving. Walking turned into jogging, and those steps became a lifeline for me. It wasn’t easy, but each step brought a little more clarity, confidence, and joy.
As my physical health improved, so did my mental health. I realized how powerful the connection between the two could be. That inspired me to get my personal training certification so I could help others experience the same transformation any way I could. Sharing health and fitness tips, encouraging others, and celebrating their successes became my passion. Helping people find their strength and confidence, no matter where they’re starting, is one of the most rewarding parts of my life.
But my journey hasn’t been without challenges. A few years ago, I started experiencing debilitating hip pain, and after numerous doctor visits, I was told I have osteoarthritis in my hips. Suddenly, the high-impact workouts I loved were no longer an option. It was a tough and emotional adjustment, but it led me to something incredible: low-impact fitness.
Low-impact exercises gave me a way to stay active and strong without the pain and strain. I discovered that they weren’t just effective—they were transformative. This approach to fitness became not only a solution for me but also a mission to help others who face similar struggles. Whether you’re dealing with joint issues, recovering from an injury, or just looking for a sustainable way to stay fit, low-impact fitness can be life-changing.
In addition to physical health, I also focus on mental health. Having faced my own struggles with anxiety and self-worth, I understand how hard it can be to prioritize your well-being. That’s why Gentle Gains isn’t just about fitness—it’s about creating a safe space to explore the connection between mind and body, offering tips and resources to help you improve both. From self-care practices to mental health resources, I want to support you in every way I can.
